A H Fox “SPECIAL” grade 28 gauge…first Fox 28 ga. ever made
A H Fox “SPECIAL” grade 28 gauge SxS shotgun. This is in fact the very first 28 gauge Fox ever built! Built in 1996, in the white, it was one of three guns build for display and show purposes for the 1997 show year. Introduced at the 1997 SHOT Show the gun was purchased and left with the A H Fox company so they could show it the rest of the year. When the show year was finished it was returned to the factory where it was engraved and finished. The “SPECIAL” grade looks like it is in between a DE and an FE; as elaborate at an FE but with no lightning bolts. Beautifully engraved and embellished with gold inlayed quail on the bottom, gold pheasants on the right and gold woodcock on the left all on a coin finished receiver that is covered in a delightful floral pattern. The 28” barrels have a solid, tapered concave rib; .550” bore diameters and it is choked .010” & .018” which is a tight IC/Mod. Double triggers, automatic safety, ejectors. The wood is nothing short of spectacular; gorgeous grained American walnut, and elaborated checkering pattern and great dimensions: 14 ¾” LOP to the checkered butt, 1 ½” DAC and 2 3/8” DAH with neutral cast. This gun has remained new and unfired since it was made in 1996 and the only blemish in this gun is a small scratch in the finish on the right side of the buttstock that would be an easy fix for a finish person. It weighs a scant 5 lbs. 7 oz. and balances perfectly at the hinge pin. Cased in the makers all leather luggage case with accessories. Provenance showing that this is, indeed, the first ever 28 gauge Fox comes with the gun. A copy of the note from A H Fox is available for serious buyers.
